The longest win in 5-piece pawnless endgames (DTM87)


Discovered by computer, this position was a big surprise. White needs 87 moves to checkmate! The only winning move is 1.K7!

Mate in 49 moves!

The very first Starchess Endgame Databases - something like the Nalimov Tablebases for orthodox chess - has been generated few days ago. A nice discovery by computer: the following position is a win for white. (Remember, in Starchess the bishop is stronger than the rook.)
